“Universities are the illustrious institutions of the country that are agent for setting society’s tune,” the President said at the first convocation of Bangladesh University at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center.
He noted that the role of Universities is of paramount importance to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of society along with making ‘good man’ through collective and academic endeavors.In the context, he cited a famous quotation of Plato: “If you ask what is the good of education in general, the answer is easy; that education make good men, and that good men act nobly.”
Country’s Universities, thus, should focus on fostering innate intellect of the student who will make immense contributions both academically and intellectually to development process.
Dr Iajuddin Ahmed, the honourable Chancellor of the university, said “We must reckon that a university is an institution that instills in young people notions of self-respect, honour and dignity and cultivates an environment for producing competent, honest and sound Leadership that would eventually control the destiny of a nation. “Therefore, our endeavors must be directed and dedicated to achieve the noble mission of education.”
He also paid deep homage to the unfading memory of the language martyrs who made supreme sacrifices in 1952 to achieve the right of mother tongue.
He also called upon scholarly section of society to uphold the value of education, keeping national interest above all else.
Congratulating the graduating students he said, “You are now at the point of entering into a new life, which is very much challenging.
The knowledge and skill that you have earned so far would be the main instrument to face the growing challenges of the time.”
The President reminded that it is their moral responsibility to demonstrate the highest degree of personal honesty and integrity in their professional arena.
The President hoped that the students would serve the nation with utmost dedication imbued with the sense of patriotism and obligation.
Among others, Vice-chancellor of the university Quazi Azher Ali also addressed the convocation.
